Montreal vs. New York City in bagel battle

After two Montreal bagel bakeries were talking trash about New York City bagels, City Room sent reporter to Montreal to taste their bagels and compare the two cities’ bagels. The result? Opinions on which one is the best vary, with most tasters choosing their hometown.

The two varieties are certainly different. Montreal’s bagels are sweater, thinner, and still baked in a wood-burning oven.

Both sides declared the other city’s bagels “shouldn’t even be called a bagel.”

Parade in Manhattan, turkey in outer space

Deepti Hajela for Associated Press writes a wrap up of Americans’ Thanksgiving experiences, centered around the 83rd annual Macy’s Thanksgiving parade in Manhattan.

For the first year ever the parade bypassed Broadway. While native New Yorkers and visitors watched the Spiderman float glide by, American astronauts dined on space turkey, and American soldiers received phone calls of thanks from President Barack Obama.

Sawako “Sawa” Okochi named 40 top chefs under 40

Brooklyn chef Sawako “Sawa” Okochi was listed as one of the top “40 chefs under 40″ by MNN, Mother Nature Network. The list differs from other chef rankings in that it focuses on chefs that cook food form local farms and concentrate on environmental stability.

Originally from Hiroshima, Japan while working at Annisa Restaurant in Manhattan’s West Village Okochi was selected to compete on the Food Network’s Iron Chef America.

She has now found her home at Brooklyn’s the Good Fork, where their produce comes from Added Value farm, a farm right next to the Good Fork.

Six celebrity Manhattan chefs, including Anthony Bourdain and Daniel Boulud gathered for a feast sponsored by Travel and Leisure magazine to eat, drink, and come to an agreement on the world’s top late-night restaurants, MSNBC reports.

Carnival Cruise line celebrated the addition of its newest ship, the Carnival Dream last night in New York City’s harbors. Cruise blogger Linda Garrison captured the moment in her blog, “Linda’s Cruise Blog.” The 130,000-ton Carnival Dream has been in the waters since September, roaming through the waters of Europe. Carnival Cruise line celebrated her arrival to North America at pier 88 in New York City, a Carnival tradition.

Big Apple makes the biggest hot chocolate

According to NBC online, a New York City restaurant Serendipity Three celebrated its 55th anniversary and the upcoming holiday season by creating the world’s largest cup of hot chocolate. The gigantic cup, which broke the Guinness World Record, was made of 12 pounds of cocoa, eight quarts of heavy cream, and one pound of French shaved chocolate.
